Hi, I'm Santanu.
I trained in art at Kala Bhavan, a prestigious faculty of art in Visva-Bharati University (Shantiniketan) founded by Rabindranath Tagore, and had exposure to modern Indian art styles and traditional ways of artistic creation in India.
Prior to immigrating to Canada, I held several art exhibitions in India and taught visual art full time at the Scindia School in Gwalior.
My work has been exhibited at Birla Academy and Academy of Fine Arts in Calcutta, and I was honoured to exhibit solo at the Visva-Bharati University in India. More recently, I held multiple exhibitions across public spaces in the City of Toronto, where I also run an established art school.
Please support me in my pursuits listed below.
Sample art works
Ink
I create paintings inspired by the forms water and ink create on paper. This piece, 'Postman,' captures a solitary figure gazing at an oil lamp in the deep night, where darkness embraces the light.
Sketches
My sketches draw inspiration from Canadian landscapes, reminiscent of the Group of Seven. They aim to blend the meditative mood of the East with Western creativity, reflecting my immigrant experience.
Mixed Media
I paint spontaneously, letting figures define lines and shapes. The darker shades play a significant role in bringing my figurative paintings to life, as seen in this piece, 'Krishna's imminent encounter with Kalia'.
